Freedom and democracy, those twin bastions of Western 'civilisation', the Gospel from the Americas which has enslaved our hearts and minds, really just denote the preservation of unhindered opportunities for some people to produce what they want and for others to choose what to consume. It's the elevation of the Free Market to the level of politico-religious dogma; in my opinion, the unholiest of abominations ever to have reared its ugly head since the fabled snake in distant times.'Freedom', as it is spread by guns and carpet bombs, by a slave media and by smiling politicians in the pay of the armaments industry, is not about safeguarding your personal liberty as an individual, but all about safeguarding the conditions necessary for the big guns to make money. You are merely a passive entity in this world-view - literally a cash cow, waiting to be milked. And if you don't want to be milked, then ...
Look at the free, democratic nations of Iraq or Afghanistan if you really want to see two former enemies of liberty who are now ... progressive countries.

there is talk in certain circles of America heading towards implosion, and that talk has become louder since the shooting of Giffords. thoughts?
All empires crumble when they outstretch themselves in their divine mission to impose their reality on the rest of the world. We Brits should know this more than anyone!
